ABSTRACT
Summary: The proper functioning of modern societies, states, and supranational structures is based on access to information. The free circulation of information is the result of civilization development, and the information space has become the natural environment for humans in the digital era. For all its cognitive benefits, it carries various risks, including the risk of spreading misinformation. Even though this phenomenon constitutes a serious threat, democratic countries do not have any tool to effectively defend against it. However, disinformation, as an element of psychological impact, is a nonkinetic weapon used in times of war. Therefore, it is important to find a way to increase society's resistance to disinformation. Purpose and research methods: The main goal of this article is to find an answer to the question of the possibility of effectively combat disinformation.
Research methods: research of the literature on the subject, desk research, case analysis. Conclusions / recommendations: Currently, it is not possible to completely eliminate the impact of disinformation on democratic societies. You can only limit their impact.
Therefore, the only way to combat disinformation seems to be to build social awareness of the threats this phenomenon poses. This in turn requires an appropriate model of vocational and university education. This education should be based on the practical knowledge and skills of the people conducting it.
